LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Dool Gure, 32, was buried Wednesday, while her family and friends continued to search for answers in her case.
“This has been a devastating tragedy for our community,” Abanur Saidi, of Bilal Mosque, said.
Gure’s body was found on Monday after she was hit by a train on railroad tracks in 2900 block of West Kentucky Street, not far from her Greenwood Avenue home.
“I couldn’t even identify her face because of how the train hit her,” Farahan Abdi, a Somali community leader, said.
“We pray for her to get a better life after this life,” Saidi said.
Gure is leaving behind a husband, five children, and an extended family. The children are ages 13, 12, 11, 8, and 6. The family wants police to figure out how Gure was hit.
“Find what happened,” Mohamed Afi, Gure’s cousin, said.

Family members are confused why Gure was on the tracks, and if she were crossing, why she wouldn’t hear the train coming. Her family said Gure was healthy and had just dropped her children at the school bus before she was hit.
In Somali culture, the mother leads the household. The family is now working to solve who will take care of the children.
“We’re still working on that, we don’t have an answer,” Abdi said.
Gure’s husband works at Amazon. He’s considering quitting his job to care for the children.
